Time Out, “The best movies of 2023 (so far).”

As a TV lover myself, I often find myself scrolling through Netflix looking for something to watch. Knowing that there have to be others with this problem, I’ve taken it upon myself to send out a survey and see what everyone is watching. And so, without further ado, here are the most popular TV shows and movies at Belle Plaine High School.

1.) The Walking Dead

A popular show on Netflix that went from 2010 to 2022. It starred Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon. The show has won 84 awards at various conferences and has been nominated for 236 awards. It received an IMBd rating of 8.1 out of 10.

Walkers shuffle slowly through the forest, passing the bodies of their peers.

The Walking Dead is based on the comic series, and it is centered on the years after a zombie apocalypse. A group of survivors wanders through town and forest to find safety, but the pressure to stay alive turns some of the group cruel, into human monsters. Over time, survivors begin to fear each other more than the zombie hordes. Sometimes, interpersonal conflicts are greater threats to their survival than the walking dead.

2.) Pitch Perfect

Starring Anna Kendrick as the titular character, Beca, Pitch Perfect has quickly become a cult classic. The trilogy was first started with Pitch Perfect in 2012 and was quickly followed by Pitch Perfect 2 and 3, released in 2015 and 2017 respectively. Pitch Perfect (2012) has an IMDb rating of 7.1/10, has won 8 awards, and has received 20 nominations.

Beca and the Barden Bellas sing No Diggity by Blackstreet and Dr. Dre at the annual Barden University riff-off.

College freshman, Beca doesn’t want to be in a clique, yet she ends up in one, an acapella group named the Barden Bellas. The Barden Bellas are made up of gay, hypersexual, and just plain weird, the only thing they have in common with each other is how well they sing together. Beca takes the group out of their comfort zone, guiding them through personal issues and taking the group all the way to Lincoln Center. Where the Bellas will battle their nemesis, the Barden University Treblemakers, for the National Collegiate Acapella trophy.

3.) Grey’s Anatomy

Another popular Netflix show, however, this one is still ongoing. One of the longest-running TV shows in history, Grey’s Anatomy has run since 2005. It received a stellar rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb, has won 87 awards, and has been nominated for 247. Ellen Pompeo has been the show’s primary runner, starring as Meredith Grey since its beginning, with Patrick Dempsey playing her love interest, Derek Sheperd.

A medical drama series that follows a group of doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital as they go from interns to residents. One of the doctors, Meredith Grey, is the daughter of the world-famous, Harper-Avery winner, Ellis Grey. Meredith struggles to maintain relationships, both with her family and colleagues. The show navigates her struggles and those of the people around her as they all navigate their lives, which are both messy and beautiful.

4.) One Tree Hill

Unfortunately, One Tree Hill was canceled after its almost decade long run from 2012-2012. The show received 4 awards and 27 nominations during its run. It starred Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, and Hilarie Burton, it also has a rating of 7.8/10 on IMDb.

While navigating their turbulent sibling dynamic, they become tangled in the web of mystery that surround Tree Hill, North Carolina.
